Wake Up and Smell the…

Good Monday Morning!!!

Who knew the thing that we can be the most paranoid about, is the very thing that is desired and craved… our scent!!!

I became active at a young age and when interacting with peers, the young and immature boys would comment about girlfriends and their “odor”. Naturally, at such a vulnerable and influential age, you internalize it and wonder, “do I have an issue… I don’t want to be known as that girl”. Many of my girlfriends were using different products and, I too, fell into the trap… literally for decades, I kept up this routine. I learned over time, that the vulva cleans itself naturally and, therefore, there is no need for such products tampering with our natural scent (and minds). Over the last 8 years, I have become more mindful of the products I use, from making my own laundry and dish washing detergents, deodorants, hair products, body wash, etc… why was I still fixated on using these feminine washes, no matter how little or mild?!?

If you too have fallen victim to altering your natural scent, I encourage you to ask the question, why?!? Consider eliminating your store bought products and get more comfortable in your own bodies. I finally did and it made quite the difference – my husband even noticed, and wondered why I ever used anything. He loves all of me even more now! This Ho 30 Challenge is about learning some new things, through EMBRACING our inner confidence to EXPLORE our desires and enjoy the EXCITEMENT when combining how you feel with what you want.

Did you know that your vulva’s scent changes when you are on your cycle and when ovulating, which can be more desirable during those times?!? Perhaps that is what ignites our primal instincts, entices our mates, and excites us to seek pleasure. The fluctuation with our hormones can give off some intoxicating pheromones to attract potential mates.

Here are some tips on how to keep your feminine hygiene clean and healthy:

• urinating immediately after sex
• changing underwear daily, or when the underwear is sweaty or soiled
• washing underwear in unscented product staking a shower after sweating, as trapped sweat can increase vaginal odor
• if there is an unpleasant odor, washing the vulva with warm water and be sure to get in between all of the areas
• using a washcloth between showers to gently wipe down the area
• when wearing underwear, choose panties with a cotton crotch that is breathable and avoid tight clothing
• while on your cycle, change your tampon/pad often
• the vagina cleanses itself naturally. The cells in the vagina keep it at a normal pH so you should NEVER douche or use any sprays in your vagina (unless your health care provider prescribes it)

I have come across several vulva inspired scented items since starting this group. The link below with Erykah Badu, a candle created by Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop business called, “This Smells Like My Vagina” and a few others. As I grow up and am surrounded by more mature beings, I’m appreciative of people embracing who they are and accepting each other as they are… while it seems so simple, why has it taken us so long and we still have so far to go???
